Request a Part
Custom Service
Need a part that doesn't exist off the shelf?
Submit a brief, receive quotes from verified marine designers, and get a print-ready file delivered directly to you — no sourcing, no guesswork.
How it works
1
Describe what you need
Fill in the request form with the part details: what it is, where it goes on the boat, the material you'd prefer, and any dimensions or photos you have. No technical jargon required — describe it the way you would to a fellow sailor.
2
Receive quotes from creators
Your brief is visible to the MarineLab3D creator network — designers and engineers with real boating experience. You'll receive one or more quotes with a price and estimated delivery time. You choose who to work with.
3
Accept and pay securely
When you accept a quote, payment is processed through the platform. The creator is only confirmed once payment goes through — no surprises, no upfront transfers to unknown accounts.
4
Download your file
The creator designs your part and uploads the print-ready file. You receive a notification and download it directly from your client area. Print it yourself, take it to a local fab lab, or use an online printing service.
What to include in your brief
- Description of the part and its function on the boat
- Boat model or mounting location (if relevant)
- Preferred material — e.g. PETG, ASA, Nylon PA12 for plastics; or stainless steel, aluminium, brass for metal parts (or just say "UV resistant", "saltwater safe", "structural load" and we'll advise)
- Any reference files, photos, or sketches — you can attach STL, STEP, DXF, PDF, or image files directly in the form
- Your intended print method: home printer, local fab lab, or online service
🔩 Don't have a file? Try reverse engineering
If you have a broken or worn part on board and no original drawings, our creators can recreate it through reverse engineering — the process of analysing, measuring, and digitally rebuilding an existing physical object into a precise 3D model ready for printing.
Two ways to proceed:
- Photos + measurements — Send clear photos of the part from multiple angles, with key dimensions if you can take them. The creator will model it digitally from your reference material.
- Ship the physical part — If photos aren't sufficient, you can send the original piece directly to the creator. They'll scan it with a 3D scanner, extract the geometry, and return both the part and the print-ready file.
Shipping & scanning conditions:
- ⏱️ Response within 5 working days from receipt of the part
- 📦 Outbound and return shipping costs are the client's responsibility
- 💰 Full refund if scanning proves not feasible
- 🔒 The part is returned in the same condition it was received
